I find this hilarious really.
Take a water bottle, flip it and drink it. Repeatedly knock the base of the bottle, so that the water can flow in faster...errrr...more?
This is one of those old army tricks.
The theory is that assuming that the car's fuel tank is rectangular, there are air pockets at the opposite end away from the mouth.
As such, rocking the car dislodges the air pockets, thereby freeing up more space for more fuel.
In reality, even if there are air pockets being dislodge, it amounts to a very small insignificant difference.
I guess this is more of a psychological placebo.
